Bible Notes: Gen 24-25

PRAYER WATCH: Gen 24:12-28,42-52. Abraham’s prays specifically about how to find a wife for Isaac, and the Lord answers quickly (45: “Before I had finished speaking in my heart”) and specifically.

PRAYER WATCH: Gen 25:21. Rebekah barren, Isaac takes the matter to the Lord, and she conceives. When he prayed about it would be interesting to know, for he married at 40 and fathered at 60. Did he pray at 41, or at 48, or at 58? This whole countless-number-of-descendants thing is clearly all of God. Sarah was barren until 90, Rebekah until 60. Their barrenness threatens the promise of God. But then again, it’s never really threatened because God is the one who opens wombs and closes wombs (cf. Gen 20:17-18).

PRAYER WATCH: Gen 25:22-23. Her pregnancy difficult, Rebekah seeks explanation from the Lord in prayer, and he answers with explanation.

God Walks The Tightrope!
Derar Kent, it might seem at times that God is going to lose out and not get His promises accomplished. But He always wins. The Lord never fails. For example, cnsider His promise in Genesis 3:15.

GENESIS 3:15 -- 15And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
How close did God come in not achieving this goal?

* Cain Slew believing Able. God separated Cain from men, making him a vagabond in the earth. But then Seth was born.
* Noah and his family (8 people) alone found grace in the midst of global, unbelieving rebellion. Then repopulated the earth.
* Satan moves Nimrod toward one-world government against God's holy plan for autonomous nations for the purpose of world-wide salvation through the cross (Genesis 11:4 with Genesis 10:32; Deuteronomy 32:8-10; Acts 17:26 & 27) Also consider THE PURPOSED time for which "The Seed Of The Woman, i.e. Eve through to Mary," came: John 7:6 & 8 with Luke 9:51 through verse 56.
* Down through Biblical history many, many other instances occurred whereby Satan seemingly might have been able to succeed in thwarting his indictment or judgment against him (Genesis 3:15), which is "the Gospel in Seed Form."
* Consider once again, for example, Abraham lying about his wife (the carrier of "the seed of the woman" in -- of all places EGYPT!
* Consider Isaac doing the same thing concerning his wife!
* And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal. 2But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain. (2 Kings 11:1-2; 2 Chronicles 22:10) But saved the life of little Joash and made him king at the tender age of 7 years old through the faithful service of Jehoida the Priest (2 Kings 11:4 and following.).
GOD IS NOT RESTRICTED OR LIMITED IN ANY WAY TO ACHIEVE HIS GOALS!
* Joseph and Mary fled to Egypt so the baby, Lord Jesus' tender life could be spared from Satan's slaughter of all the male children 2 years old and under after he was born of the seed of the woman, his mother, Mary.
* The Jews in trying to limit the manifestation of Messiah's glory as the Son of God, Son of David and Seed of The Woman had their attempted injunction denied by the King of kings (Luke 19:40), stating that the very megaliths of the earth would cry out!
* God has always held His Son and His people as the apple of His eye (Zechariah 2:8). That NEVER CHANGES. And so we sang that beautiful song all those years growing up in Sunday School: "JESUS NEVER FAILS, JESUS NEVER FAILS. HEAVEN AND EARTH WILL PASS AWAY. BUT JESUS NEVER FAILS." (Praise God! Praise Jesus! Praise The Lord!!!!!)
* So as God has promised to bruise (Mortally, Genesis 3:15; John 12:31) Satan under our feet shortly -- as well as Jesus is waiting for His Father to make all His enemies his footstool -- we too can genuinely hope and trust and know that He is going to make it happen WITHOUT FAIL (Romans 16:20). --Dad
