The Humility of a Dead Man

Emperor Maximilian I of Germany died on this date in 1519.

He left instructions for his body to be scourged, his hair shorn, and his teeth broken out.  He wanted to appear before God as penitent.

The Bible says: "1 Samuel 16:7
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart."
God looks at the heart - a Christian perspective
God isn't concerned with outward appearance. He looks into our hearts and sees our true motives and desires; what's on the inside is much more important than how we dress up the outside.
The Bible teaches that, as Savior, God rises above a broken heart, silent heart, merry heart, burning heart, tender heart, honest heart, sins of the heart, clean heart -- and much, much more. In fact, the Bible says: "Psalm 147:5
Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite." And Jesus taught that only those who believe, repent of sin, and practice the Gospel, spiritually, fair well before the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do: "John 15:3
Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you." And because of the eternal truths I've sited here, I know dear, old Max didn't make it to Heaven --Jesus said: "Matthew 24:35
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away."
